My Novel "Thirteen Buttonholes"
THIRTEEN BUTTONHOLES is World War II Historical Fiction and is a coming of age story about seventeen year old Annie Capelli. She is in love with Kenneth Hirschall, a young man her parents don't approve of. He is not Catholic, he is not not Italian, and he has a farmer's deferment (he won't ever fight in the War, something Annie's father dislikes because he himself is a veteran of the Great war). Annie works as a buttonholer in a Pennsylvania Navy uniform mill; she runs a buttonhole machine and sews thirteen buttonholes in the front of enlisted men's blue wool trousers.
Even with reminders of the War surrounding her, Annie holds onto a vision of her future: marriage, a two-story brick house, a grand picture window adorned with tieback lace curtains, and two kids running around underfoot.

Annie's vision becomes a reality and she has all she ever wanted, but a 1952 vacation through Texas changes everything.
In THIRTEEN BUTTONHOLES, Annie starts out literally as a buttonholer and ends up buttonholing herself in a relationship in which she will have sacrified so much.
